THE ART OF SOUTHERN NIGHTS AND SOUTHERN ORDERS

I am on our Diocesan priests' retreat at Marywood on the Saint Johns River in Jacksonville, Florida. It is a beautiful location. This photo I took tonight is in the chapel with Adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament. The window behind it shows a southern sunset reminiscent of Gone With the Wind, with live oaks festooned with Spanish moss as the lazy Saint Johns River meanders northward like the only other river to do so, the Nile!

Great fishing in St. John's River. We used to go there for a weekend and load up on bream and bass. There used to be a lot of fish camps there. I wonder if Strickland's restaurant still exists.

It's quite possible that the water is polluted and the fish are dead.
We humans, Catholics included, seem determined to screw up God's creation efforts.
