The canopy was in a box in our sacristy for about the past 50 years! When I opened the box I was clueless about what this material was until we spread it out on the floor and realized it was the canopy for Eucharistic Processions and despite the dead roaches and being in a box for over 50 years it was in remarkable good condition. We had it cleaned and purchased new poles and used it for the first time last year. I believe the Jesuits were the ones who acquired this canopy:

For more reason there was none in Augusta this year either. Bummer.
I honestly remember having the thought about the irony of the canopy being from the Jesuits during the Procession. The Jesuits that built Saint Joseph were, of course, a different breed of Jesuit than your average today. However, I'm sure many of the old order are in the Church Triumphant now, and walked beside us that day. On a related note, I read elsewhere that many of the new generation of Jesuits are fine Orthodox young men, especially here in the United States. Pray that the Society of Jesus would return to it's roots. They would make a fearsome ally in the Pope's Restoration of our Catholic identity and Holy Mother Church.
