Jesus saves her life, does not condemn her or cast the first stone! Later, though, in His Passion, He will take upon Himself the punishment due her for her sin and due us for our sins! This is the ultimate act of saving sinful mankind, the action of eternal salvation!
In this video clip from the "Passion of the Christ" the woman caught in adultery is depicted as being Saint Mary Magdalene, which is a part of Catholic tradition and piety although not verifiable from the Scriptures. In this clip, she begins to become aware that the punishment due to her for her sins is now taken by Jesus. His Precious Blood is shed for her and for us. This is the ultimate act of saving sinful mankind from the eternal punishment due to us because of our offenses against God and one another. There is Eucharistic imagery here but in the most graphic of ways and certainly not in the sanitized, unbloody version our Lord has given us in the Mass--thank God for that! But please note the care we should take when we spill the Precious Blood of Christ at Mass! At any rate, a powerful take on the woman caught in adultery:
