Anticipating Sunday's Gospel of the Prodigal Son, this video is very inspirational with wonderful artwork. Who says we can't use contemporary Christian music in devotional ways? Just keep it out of the Mass and Liturgy of the Hours please! Enjoy and read my comments below:
This Sunday's Gospel is the Prodigal Son. We all know that it is about God’s love for us and that no matter what sins we have committed or in what ways we have offended Him, when we, by God’s grace, finally come to our senses and return to Him with a repentant heart, God will embrace us and celebrate with us our return. This should be of comfort to all who approach the Sacrament of Penance. It truly is God’s way to celebrate with Him our return which includes God’s forgiveness and reconciling love.
But today’s Gospel can also be called the “Bummed-Out Son.” The other son is resentful of the lavish display of love and forgiveness that is celebrated by the father. Do we resent our parents when our prodigal siblings receive forgiveness from them? Do we resent God when He forgiveness those we think deserve hell? I think all of us are a mixture of the Prodigal Son and the Bummed-Out Son. Perhaps we should use the remainder of our Lenten season to chill out, go to confession and celebrate God’s love, forgiveness and reconciliation for everyone who approaches our Heavenly Father with sincere repentance. God bless you.
These two brothers are you and me! What a great Father in heaven we have. Jesus brings us His love, forgiveness, penance and reconciliation!
