TO LIFT THE HEM OF THE GARMENT OF THE PRIEST OR TO DO WHAT IS IN THE VIDEO OF THE ORDINARY FORM MASS: WHICH IS MORE DIGNIFIED AND PREFERABLE?

I would have been honored to do this for Pope Pius X!

This video has made the rounds on the internet. We've had such a great discussion on the altar boys lifting the hem of the priest's chasuble, I wonder if there will be any comments on this rather unusual accretion to the OF Mass?

We've had so many good comments on "accretions" in the Extraordinary Form of the Mass and the mandate that Vatican II clean these up and reform them. The video above must be what Vatican II meant by noble simplicity and active participation. I'm sure the priest was honored by this Gospel Procession! Comments????????

Q. What's the difference between a modern "liturgist" and a terrorist?

A. You can negotiate with a terrorist.

Grrr! I got dizzy just watching this. Once while in Asia, I walked into a living room that had paraphernalia on display giving tribute to totalitarianism. As a US DOD guy the hackles on the back of my neck rose up at the sight. This video had the same affect. Harrumph!
I really did not like it. But the puppet show was worse. I had to listen to Mozart for an hour to get the tune from that video out of my head. Nasty stuff Father. Uggghhh.

I've always loved (heavy on the sarcasm) this video for the sole sake of the server in front of the priest's 'liturgical movement'

I had to make a determination, was this the Jerry Springer show or was this the Mass. My vote would be "the Jerry Springer Show". This has to be the most undignified, irreverent, most ridiculous, nonsense, I have seen, I will not even dignify it by even suggesting it is the Mass. Human expression, showmanship, selfishness, and darn right stupidity. The Mass is to focus our mind and hearts to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, (God), and not to the individuals participating in the Mass. What Bishop would allow this to take place! I don't mean any ill will, but I am glad the "old guard" are retiring, and bright faithful, orthodox Bishops are coming to the forefront. This is a prime example of what Pope Paul VI meant when he said we are headed for a train wreck! Now, there is no conceivable way that their is any relation to the EF of the priest garment being lifted. I make sense to lift heavy garments to assist the priest in the elevation. The elevation in the EF is exaggerated so emphasize the visual for the benefit of the faithful in seeing God being exalted on high, to show the fact of the resurrection, and His glory. Any action that can assist in this is most appropriate. Is it necessary, probably not, dose it send the right visual signal, I think so. It also demonstrates the cooperative aspect of all who preside, priest, deacon, server, in the EF they work as one assisting in presenting a cohesive focus on God. That is the importance of good rubrics.

That video always drives me nuts. The procession of the Book of the Gospels is to show the importance of the Word of God contained within. When watching that video, my eye was drawn first to the priest who was making a fool of himself dancing around. Second, I saw the pianist jamming out on the piano like he was Jerry Lee Lewis. Only briefly did I notice the fact that the priest had the Book of the Gospels raised up. Lord, save us from priests and liturgists who want to make the Mass "relevant"! A properly celebrated Mass is relevant to eternal life, not our earthly whims and desires!

That shouldn't be question, I think that'd be an interesting rubric to bring back for the OF to lift the chausible, but that would of course require the priest actually be bowing at the words of conecration, which so often isn't done anymore (even though it's said in the rubrics)

Priests who do this ...PLEAE STOP IT !!! I can not begin to imagine how many people leave the Church because of this nonsense. And the people who are there now will be gone most likely in a few years. This is not the sort of stuff that "keeps" a person going to Mass throughout their lifetimes. They will be bored of this soon enough.
