Anymore, I find politics in this country to be nauseating. To me, the one side twists everything into something else that to most reasonable people, doesn't make sense. Also, and to me, the one side is easily the most caring yet uncaring, charitable yet un-charitable, tolerant yet intolerant, genuine yet disingenuous etc. They are everything to everyone and nothing to most. One is castigated for not "saying" how much they care about "x", while they oftentimes cobble words into empty virtue signaling. Witness some of what we hear on this very blog that, increasingly, and to me, is just sound-byte babble. As much as I try to listen, be reasonable and open-minded (within the confines of our Catholic faith), fair and avoid sinning while so doing, I feel anymore that TJM's assessment is on point.
You said it more eloquently than I did. Here is a simple illustration how unhinged they have become, installing a tampon dispenser in 3rd to 5th grade boys’ bathroom. Strange indeed when they claim they are following the “science.”
This is sure to ruin the day for the Political Left (including many of the Catholic hierarchy):
Have you heard about the so-called Argentinian economic miracle? I have news: there is no miracle. This is a lie.
I am the chairman of President Milei’s council of advisors, and I want you to know that there is no miracle here at all.
You read that correctly. No miracle whatsoever.
What you are witnessing is the most impressive turnaround in the country’s history.
We slashed wasteful spending that once enriched the few at the expense of the many.
We brought down inflation—a tax that disproportionately burdens the poor. As a result, we lowered poverty rates by more than 11% and lifted millions out of poverty
We eliminated the thousands of pickets that made travel across the country a nightmare. Imagine the relief of breathing in fresh air after years of suffocating congestion.
Welfare programs? The left’s favorite: they mostly served politicians. They even stole food from the poor. Yes. They stole food from the poor.
Now, welfare flows directly to those who need it most.
At the core of our strategy, we eradicated the source of the macroeconomic instability that had plagued our nation for so long: we eliminated the fiscal deficit. We now run a fiscal surplus, which has dramatically reduced our country risk—from the 3000s to the 700s.
A miracle, some say? How dare they!
This is not a miracle. This is hard work. This is putting the country first, not politicians.
Why is the opposition protesting so fervently? Not because they care for the people or the nation, but because they fear the truth—that they have been the problem all along. Their time is over.
Again, this is not a miracle.
This is hard work. This is having a vision, formulating a plan, and executing it without fear. This is having the guts to do what is right. This is president @JMilei leadership.
The jig is up for the left. They have nothing, and they never did. They do not love the poor. They love poverty.
This is the crazy stuff that those attacking DOGE will not acknowledge.
SECRETARY BROOKE ROLLINS: We just had a wonderful cabinet meeting, all aligned on certainly the effort to realign the government. But even at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, we’ve canceled a $300,000 contract educating on food justice for queer and transgender farmers in San Francisco. We canceled a similar contract in New York—again, educating transgender and queer farmers on food justice and food equality. I’m not even sure what that means. But apparently, the last administration wanted to put our taxpayer dollars toward that.
We also canceled a $600,000 contract out of Louisiana that was studying the menstrual cycles of transgender men—a $600,000 contract. We canceled another contract out of a university in the Midwest that focused on getting more diversity, equity, and inclusion into our pest management industry. Again, these are nonsensical. It makes zero sense to use taxpayer dollars to fund these.
I know these are just a few examples of the hundreds and hundreds that we have found.
This will ruin K's day, a Trump hater, Bill Barr, former AG, says Boasberg is all wet. I suspect this is a green light to Roberts that he can do his job properly.
Aside from the question about whether a single district court judges has, or should have, the power to issue nationwide injunctions, it just cannot be the case that executive officials alone can deport someone under the AEA with no possibility of judicial review, especially when there has been no opportunity to apply for habeas. Consider the following comments from Joyce Vance on Substack:
“It was clear during oral argument that the government’s lawyer wanted to focus on the fact that the five named plaintiffs were able to file a lawsuit. What he danced around were questions about the people on the planes and whether they had the same opportunity. He made a woefully disingenuous argument in an effort to dodge the fact that they’d had little if any notice they were about to be deported and imprisoned and no access to lawyers to file suit in Texas before that happened to them. . . .
The plaintiffs wrote about it eloquently in their brief to the Court of Appeals, providing a common-sense summation of what the Trump administration is doing. If a president can single out any group as qualifying enemies under the AEA, and the courts can’t review that decision, then any one of us can be sent off to a foreign prison.”
Just think about that for a minute. Doesn’t it mean that a president—ANY president—could authorize the arrest of me, or YOU, and accuse us of being an alien enemy (perhaps because they don’t like our views) even though we are American citizens and then summarily deport us to goodness knows where, with no access to legal counsel or time and opportunity to apply for habeas? Do you really want to live in a country like THAT? Well, you might say, that wouldn’t happen because Congress will exercise oversight. To which I reply (with respect to the current administration): Wake me up when Congressional Republicans get a spine.
Moreover, if you research the matter, it seems that mistakes were made when these deportations occurred just two hours after Trump’s proclamation. Not only were some women put on the plane and then returned to the United States because the agreement was only to accept men (good grief—what utter incompetence!), but several families have claimed that the government misunderstood the tattoos, seeing them as evidencing membership in the Tren de Aragua gang when they did no such thing. So, quite apart from anything else, do we really want to give such unreviewable power to a bunch of incompetent nitwits!
Now here is a point for you to consider. American citizens following the January 6 Protest at the Capital Building were thrown into the slammer, without due process of law for years, with nary a protest from the same folks who are crying over terrorists and thugs being deported without "due process."
If this is what passes for "legal scholarship" in an alleged Law School, this Country is in more serious trouble than I thought and SuperTrump has arrived just in the nick of time, kind of like when George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, FDR and Ronald Reagan did.
Your first link is the one I was responding to, so it adds nothing.
Regarding the whataboutism link, what is the evidence for this sweeping assertion?: “For four years, Trump supporters were violently beaten, denied medical care, locked in pretrial solitary confinement. No hearings. No presumption of innocence. No bail or fair trials for many J6ers.” Please don’t just cite conclusory assertions, provide the evidence. I cannot check all of it, but I did check the bail point, and the violent ones were indeed held without bail, with good reason. But the Trump Cult specializes in rewriting history, starting of course with the Big Lie that Trump won the 2020 election. In any event, assuming some January 6 rioters WERE indeed denied due process, that would also be unacceptable. But two wrongs don’t make a right.
Regarding your last link, how typical of the Trump Cultists—if you’re not born in the United States, you can’t be a “real American”! Well, let’s just compare the knowledge of civics and American history of those who, like myself, are naturalized Americans with the knowledge of so-called “real Americans,” shall we? This is a low blow even for you—and you often go very low. But if you really DO want to go there, perhaps we should also be asking how someone born in South Africa (whose immigration history is murky at best, raising questions about whether he was himself an “illegal alien” to use your preferred term) is now being allowed to reshape the entire federal government. To quote the author of the article you linked, how come we aren’t talking about THAT?
As for prior judicial experience, clearly some of these judges have it now because they have been a D.C. district judge for several years. And consider how many Supreme Court Justices have had no prior judicial experience—forty:
Perhaps someone will also unearth how many federal judges Trump appointed with no prior judicial experience. Here is one notorious and dreadful example:
Oh, give me a break! Hiding behind his five-minute time limit, Kennedy goaded Professor Franks and then cut her off at least three or four times when she attempted to explain what she wrote—a fact the author conveniently omits (he mentions only one instance when there were in fact several) but one that be readily verified by watching the video of her testimony.
So, in addition to being “cagey” and “wicked smart” (which he is), Kennedy is also a jackass!
Perhaps Professor Franks is indeed a radical leftist who is really “out there,” but she was hardly given a fair hearing by Kennedy, and I do not have the time to read all her work to form a reliable opinion on the matter.
This may be the way the “gotcha” game is played in politics; it is not how serious scholars conduct themselves.
But perhaps Kennedy is not so smart after all as he is likely unaware of the irony that, by his very treatment of Professor Franks, he provides cogent evidence supporting her thesis about male white supremacy. QED!
Just from reading some of her statements, it is very evident that this law professor is a leftwing loon and a racist. Why spend your emotional capital on her? Or in your mind are all leftwing law professors who are perverting the legal system wonderful no matter what they say. She should learn to code.
Most "hearings" before committees of the Senate and House are not hearings at all. They are performance pieces, carefully scripted in advance, that are used to advance someone's agenda. (Having an agenda is NOT a bad thing - we all have them.)
I've often dreamed of being called to testify before such a committee. Oh, the fun I would have . . . before being ushered out by a sergeant at arms.
It might do like this: "Member of Congress: Let me remind Fr. Kavanaugh that he is under oath and that making false statements before this committee is perjury and punishable by a $XXX dollar fine and XX years in prison!"
Fr. Kavanaugh: "Let me remind the gentle woman from the 14th congressional district of Georgia that I do not need to be reminded of the penalties for perjury. Let me further remind the gentle woman that she's not as smart as she likes to think she is and that she is an employee of the State of Georgia and working for the people of our great state."
(Gavel sounds...) Chair: "Fr. Kavanaugh is out of order and I would ask the sergeant at arms to remove him from the hearing room."
K, lol. Your agenda is to destroy the Holy, Roman, Catholic and Apostolic Church and replace it with Leftwing Loonism, why else would you be a Democrat. FYI, you certainly are not as smart as you think YOU are. Don't you have a parish to run, conversions to make, vocations to foster?
K aka the Smart One, this will give you the Big Sads! Polling shows a strong shift to the Country being on the right track since Grifter Joe has gone!!! Does not fit the Fake News "narrative." I would point out those pollsters are not exactly "Trump friendly."
DATA: Historically High Number of Americans Say Country on the Right Track Under Trump. Several recent public opinion polls show a historically high number of Americans think the country is on the right track. A recent NBC poll shows 44 percent of respondents saying the country is headed in the right direction—the highest number recorded since 2004—and a Marist poll shows 45 percent saying we’re on the right track—the highest number since 2009.The opinion surveys, along with recent hard economic data, directly contradict the corporate media narrative that sliding consumer confidence signals an imminent recession. Instead, the data would appear to suggest that recent declines in consumer confidence are being driven by the said corporate media narrative and not economic realities.
K, if you really are a Catholic priest, this is one action you and Pope Francis should applaud. Trump nixing $120 million dollars to Planned Abortionhood!
Stories like this suggest you may not be able to trust the BBC's nor the Guardian's reportage on President Trump. England definitely needs a Winston Churchill or Lady Thatcher again!
"While public support for legal abortion has fluctuated somewhat in two decades of polling, it has remained relatively stable over the past several years. Currently, 63% say abortion should be legal in all or most cases, while 36% say it should be illegal in all or most cases."
Turley is probably correct—the Trump administration may win many of these cases. I am glad you now seem to agree that the appropriate way to deal with them is not to impeach the judges but to follow the time-honored legal process.
On that point, and regarding the deportation case involving Judge Boasberg specifically, notice Turley’s view that:
“Well, Bill Barr is one of the best lawyers I've ever known and there are certainly strong arguments for the administration to make here. I think that we have to be honest that there are good faith arguments on both sides. This is a controversial law being used in a new way and there are legitimate questions as to the meaning of some of these terms and how much of it is actually reviewable.
That's going to have to be resolved by the Supreme Court, not by lower court judges. And people need to trust our system here. We have the greatest legal system on Earth and it will work through these problems and I think it's going to work through them pretty quickly.”
The point is that the judges are acting ultra vires, they have ZERO authority here and disciplinary action, including but not limited to, abolishing the DC Circuit may ultimately need to be necessary for these rogue judges to finally get the message. We actually may not have the greatest system on earth at this point, due to the overreach of highly politicized judges on the Left. If you care to do a little research on a handful of them Boasberg, Reyes, and Howell, have deep conflicts and have in the case of Howell have publicly trashed President Trump. None of these "judges" should be near any case involving the President.
Now for a breath of fresh air. Paul Vallas, a sane Democrat who lost his bid to be mayor of Chicago due to the Union Goon Teachers Union there, has this to say about the Department of Indoctrination in DC:
The Chicago Schools are an utter failure. Even the president of the Teachers Union sent one of her children to a private school. Do as I say, not as I do. This is all on the Democratic Party, the Republicans have not held power in Chicago in over 100 years.
Democrat Hypocrisy on Steroids. These "senators" are going to Gitmo to check on conditions for the thugs and terrorists sent there, but NEVER checked on the conditions of American citizens who protested at the Capital on January 6 and were thrown into a DC Gulag for 4 years without due process of law. I think the Dem Party has a secret death wish.
Just let the process play out. I am sure you were happy enough to do that when it enabled Trump to run out the clock on his prosecutions, so you should be happy for that to happen now.
I think Biden and his minions are more in need of counseling than Trump and his supporters. You must studiously avoid information which demonstrates how crazy and dangerous they are from pushing transgenderism and drag shows on minors, defending violent illegal aliens over the safety of American citizens, throwing molotov cocktails or keying Teslas. I could go on but you have decided to accept this vile behavior as normative.
Thank you for the link for Mark Penn. An erstwhile Democratic moderate, who is apparently now engaged in efforts to establish a political party seeking a bipartisan middle way, Penn has grown disaffected with the recent leftward tilt of the Democratic Party.
However, I am sorry but once again I have decided no longer to engage with you until you stop making completely unfounded statements about me. You say, without a shred of evidence, that I “have decided to accept this vile behavior as normative.” I have tried to engage with you in good faith, but you don’t seem interested in good faith discussions.
But engaging with you on any other basis imperils both of us spiritually, as explained in today’s The Catholic Thing:
I am sorry you feel that way but you always seem to support the political Left's antics as night follows day. I read The Catholic Thing and am an admirer of Father DeSouza. The toxicity in public life primarily comes from the Democratic Party and its relentless efforts to degrade the family and accepted moral norms: drag shows for minors, how to sex manuals in our grade and junior high schools, worship of transgenderism, precluding parent involvement when a minor suggests they want a gender change, etc. Then the political violence: Antifa and BLM rioting and pillaging, destroying Teslas (in the name of saving Democracy?). The January 6 Protest was a tea party by comparison and there was not burning, looting, loss of billions from that unfortunate event. All of this degradation and perversion is coming from one side of the aisle, so there is no moral equivalence between the two parties which you keep touting. It just is not true. Denying reality is what cost the Democratic Party the election in November and from what you read and hear they are doubling down on the insanity. So be it. Perhaps they will go the way of the Whigs.
“[Y]ou always seem to support the political Left's antics as night follows day”
Absolute poppycock! Conclusory assertion. Evidence please. Except for those sadly trapped in binary thinking, criticizing or opposing Trump administration policies is not tantamount to "always . . . support[ing] the political Left’s antics."
Read my book. But I doubt you will as I don’t think you can handle the truth.
Also, you employ the same cheap tactics when responding to Father Kavanaugh. Because he voted against Trump and thus for the Democratic party, you routinely accuse him of supporting abortion. But you have lost ALL credibility on that point, given your avid support for IVF (because the Great Leader advocates it), despite your strained attempt to distinguish it from abortion.
I know you don’t like the source, but I have long been a student of Orwell’s 1984 and am impervious to Trumpian doublethink, scapegoating, memory hole historical revisionism, or gaslighting, unlike the “hollow men” whom he commands by fear (his favored method of control, deployed even against craven BigLaw although thankfully some law firms are fighting back):

"While public support for legal abortion has fluctuated somewhat in two decades of polling, it has remained relatively stable over the past several years. Currently, 63% say abortion should be legal in all or most cases, while 36% say it should be illegal in all or most cases."

Think about it!
Mark J.
Trump and many of his minions need counseling—desperately! They are very damaged people.
Mark J.
Mark J.
Mark,
The point is that the judges are acting ultra vires, they have ZERO authority here and disciplinary action, including but not limited to, abolishing the DC Circuit may ultimately need to be necessary for these rogue judges to finally get the message.
Paul Vallas, a sane Democrat who lost his bid to be mayor of Chicago due to the Union Goon Teachers Union there, has this to say about the Department of Indoctrination in DC:
https://www.city-journal.org/article/trump-department-of-education-reform?skip=1

TJM:
Just let the process play out. I am sure you were happy enough to do that when it enabled Trump to run out the clock on his prosecutions, so you should be happy for that to happen now.
Mark J.
Mark J,
Here is the link to Mark Penn’s thoughts on the Signal Chat matter:
https://x.com/Mark_Penn/status/1904698796996780464
I think Biden and his minions are more in need of counseling than Trump and his supporters. You must studiously avoid information which demonstrates how crazy and dangerous they are from pushing transgenderism and drag shows on minors, defending violent illegal aliens over the safety of American citizens, throwing molotov cocktails or keying Teslas. I could go on but you have decided to accept this vile behavior as normative.
Mark J,
You won’t read this but here goes anyway. This article details just some of the insane things HHS was funding under Biden:
https://pjmedia.com/catherinesalgado/2025/03/29/you-wont-believe-what-insanity-hhs-was-funding-n4938389
I imagine as the next election occurs the Republicans will remind folks of these things!
TJM:

Mark J.
Mark J,
I am sorry you feel that way but you always seem to support the political Left's antics as night follows day.
Mark J.
