Archbishop Salvatore just responded, tweeting this morning:
"The widely diverse coalition of signers of the petition to Pope Francis demonstrates that, even beyond its spiritual value, the Traditional Latin Mass is a cultural treasure that has inspired artistic creativity of every kind & in every age, building what we know as Western Civilization. I thank them for making their voices heard."

It is time for the bishops to do their own Agatha Christie letter and ask for the lifting of all restrictions on the old Mass.

Said the archbishop, "We'll take help from anywhere we can get it. Treating the mass as only a cultural artifact art form, what could go wrong?". Pretty sad indictment of Catholics when the Church must depend upon "friends" like that to preserve its own heritage.
Same goes for morals and culture in general in Europe and the US...right now, "Tear it ALL down, we'll figure out what will take its place later," rules near half the West, and of the remainder, at least half of them don't care one way or the other.
Spoiled fat sheep contemplating only themselves while imagining they are up to playing geopolitics and reshaping the world, while those with a real agenda and weapons to back it egg them on.
The archbishop added further, "Really, no big deal treating the Latin mass as a cultural artifact art form...we've been doing that for hundreds of years ourselves, so, the more, the merrier."
The Roman Church, through a series of actions, has convinced itself that liturgy that remains fundamentally normative is suddenly archaic.
Proof positive that if one says something enough times, he and those that surround him start to believe it.
ByzRus, its called the big lie or propaganda...works with mud slinging, too....tell it enough times, and it becomes truth, or, as Tailgunner Joe McCarthy said, sling enough mud and some of it is bound to stick.
