All well and good; but what does one do when the authorities in the Diocese won't cooperate? A young couple I know wanted a Wedding Mass in our Cathederal, ad orientem with chant etc.The Pastoral Minister told them "we don't do that here;you need to go to Latin Mass Parish"."In other words the much invoked "Spirit of Vatican II"and "we are Church" brigade have absolutely no intention of "tollerating" nor" "accompanying pastoraly" anything more than what they have given us post 1965.IF you have an orthodox bishop and IF you have an orthodox priest you MIGHT get something better. As regards an orthodox priest; when he leaves-the former heterodoxy is generally restored
Cathedral of Christ the King, Atlanta…..the church of my baptism and earliest childhood memories of The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Of course that was long before that metal table “altar” was there blocking the view of the beautiful marble high altar. I was also married there. After the first table was set up in front in ‘65, my father said “this won’t last and it will be known as the era of the card table Mass.”.
I have never understood the one handed elevation either, there is just something that looks strange about it.
Mallen, I love your cathedral and the old altar with the crucifixion scene above it. The freestanding altar is out of place there, disrupts the unity of the sanctuary and takes up all the space there. The old altar with the crucifixion scene and its framing is stunning. The other altar detracts from it. The phobia of ad orientem after Vatican II should not have lasted but alas it has.
I despise this one-handed elevation habit. It is even worse when it is coupled with a slow "showing" motion to the left and right. Casual, frisbee-like, sloppy, takes the mystery away etc. This is the best we can do when commemorating the sacrifice at Calvary; or, are we just having the commemorative meal here?

I see we have a showman! This is where the rubrics for the EF should be followed

Please tell me why we needed a new mass again?
Unknown I will not publish your comments after this until you activate your account with blogger so I can access it. You will need a handle as well.

I wonder if priests who do this are mimicking DaVinci's "The Last Supper" painting? Nothing like life imitating art!
