Whether it serves any purpose to investigate the delicts of a priest who died thirty years ago and the accusations against whom are more than forty years old, is a moot point.
What I find strange is the way that his music has to be 'cancelled'. I've never encountered the 'songs' Fr Gabarain has composed and am not likely to; yet they should be judged on their musical merits, not on the character of their author.
Carlo Gesualdo (1566-1613) was one of the most original composers of his day. He was also a murderer, having killed his first wife and her lover. I don't think Fr Gabarain's delicts were on the same scale. Yet the sacred music of Gesualdo was never condemned simply on that account.
Incidentally, he was the nephew of St Charles Borromeo.
