I FOUND A VESTMENT IN THE CATHEDRAL SACRISTY I PURCHASED FOR THE CATHEDRAL BACK IN THE LATE 80’S!
I have not seen these since 1991!
But of course I wore these for the Cathedral’s Solemn Sung EF Mass which had the most faithful in attendance since I started celebrating it five years ago, maybe 500 souls!
I remember offering Mass somewhere, and being given one of those "overlay stole" chasubles. I didn't complain; I put the stole on under the chasuble as is proper. "But Father..." I smiled and said, that's how I will wear it. There was a little grumbling.
17th century Bishop of Toul on the so-called Roman chasuble: “So cut down is the chasuble... that at the sides it hardly covers the shoulders, much less reaches to the elbows; and this cutting-down has been effected without any sort of warrant of the Holy See or ecclesiastical law, but entirely through the private judgement of individuals ... Not only have they deformed the priestly garment itself until it bears no further resemblance whatever to its ancient shape, but they have also deprived it of its mystical reason for being the topmost vestment...”
That's really tiny, the Roman Style. Supposedly, a traditional Roman cut is different from a "Fiddleback" however, the distinction must be subtle as they thematically seem to be about the same. Pope Benedict XVI vested in a fuller cut Roman. Those were nice.
Notice, Fr. how your orans position is more exaggerated with the more modern cut than the Roman? I've heard a priest say it should be cigar box width... Depends on what you smoke, I guess!

I'd hope so, overlay stoles should be dead.
Overlay stoles, a reprobated practice

A priest once told me that putting the stole over the chasuble symbolized putting authority above charity.
