THE TRANSFERED SOLEMNITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI IN THE EXTRAORDINARY FORM AT ST. JOSEPH CHURCH, SUNDAY MAY 29TH AT 12:10 PM

EXTRAORDINARY FORM HIGH MASS CHANGING PARTS FOR THE SOLEMNITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI
 INTROIT Ps. 80:17
He fed them with the finest wheat, alleluia! and filled them with honey from the rock, alleluia, alleluia, alleluia! Ps. 80:2. Sing joyfully to God, our helper, sing aloud to the God of Jacob. V. Glory be . . .

COLLECT - O God, we possess a lasting memorial of Your Passion in this wondrous Sacrament. Grant that we may so venerate the mysteries of Your Body and Blood that we may always feel within ourselves the effects of Your redemption; who lives and rules with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever.
EPISTLE
I Cor. 11:23-29
Brethren: For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was betrayed, took bread, And giving thanks, broke and said: "Take ye and eat: This is my body, which shall be delivered for you. This do for the commemoration of me." In like manner also the chalice, after he had supped, saying: "This chalice is the new testament in my blood. This do ye, as often as you shall drink, for the commemoration of me. For as often as you shall eat this bread and drink the chalice, you shall shew the death of the Lord, until he come." Therefore, whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord. But let a man prove himself: and so let him eat of that bread and drink of the chalice. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily eateth and drinketh judgment to himself.

GRADUAL
The eyes of all look hopefully to You, O Lord, and You give them food in due season. V. You open Your hand and fill every living creature with blessing.

Alleluia, alleluia! V. John 6:56-57 My flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, abides in me and I in him, alleluia!

SEQUENCE
Lo! the angel’s food is given
To the pilgrim who has striven;
see the children’s bread from heaven,
which on dogs may not be spent.

Truth the ancient types fulfilling,
Isaac bound, a victim willing,
Paschal lamb, its lifeblood spilling,
manna to the fathers sent.

Very bread, good shepherd, tend us,
Jesu, of your love befriend us,
You refresh us, you defend us,
Your eternal goodness send us
In the land of life to see.

You who all things can and know,
Who on earth such food bestow,
Grant us with your saints, though lowest,
Where the heav’nly feast you show,
Fellow heirs and guests to be. Amen. Alleluia.
GOSPEL
John 6:56-59

At that time, Jesus said to the crowds of the Jews: "For my flesh is meat indeed: and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood abideth in me: and I in him. As the living Father hath sent me and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, the same also shall live by me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Not as your fathers did eat manna and are dead. He that eateth this bread shall live for ever."
OFFERTORY
Lev. 21:6
The priests of the Lord offer incense and loaves to God; therefore they shall be sacred to their God and shall not profane His name, alleluia!

SECRET (PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS)  O Lord, graciously bestow upon Your Church the gifts of unity and peace, which are symbolized in this Sacrifice we offer You. Through our Lord . . .
PREFACE (Preface of the Nativity) - It is truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God, for through the Mystery of the Word made flesh, the new light of Thy glory hath shone upon the eyes of our mind, so that while we acknowledge God in visible form, we may through Him be drawn to the love of things invisible. And therefore with Angels and Archangels, with Throne and Dominations, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of Thy glory, evermore saying:

COMMUNION ANTIPHON
I Cor. 11:26-27
As often as you shall eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord, until He comes. Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily, will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord, alleluia!

POST COMMUNION -  O Lord, grant that we may enjoy the eternal presence of Your divinity, which is foreshadowed by our earthly reception of Your Precious Body and Blood; who lives and rules with God the Father . . .

Following the Post Communion Prayer, the Final Blessing and Last Gospel are omitted; the Eucharist will be placed in the monstrance for the in-church Corpus Christi Procession (similar to Holy Thursdays). All Kneel. After the procession, the Most Blessed Sacrament will remain on the altar for solemn adoration. Adoration will conclude at 4:30 PM with Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. After adoring our Lord, please depart the church in sacred silence. Thank you.

It must be nice.

At my parish the Mass prayers of Corpus Christi will be said but the feast won't really be celebrated.

This is what the sanctuary looks like on Corpus Christi. In front of the altar the priest (who always wears flip flops and shorts) has a military display in front of the altar. There are various military hats on stands and military jackets on hangers on stands. Corpus Christi won't be mentioned but Memorial Day will. The hymns will be, if previous years are any indication, Battle Hymn of the Republic and God Bless America.

And I would bet that the majority of Catholic parishes around the country will resemble what I happening in my parish as opposed to what is happening in yours. And the self destruction continues.

A pedantic point: It's not "transferred" since the feast was celebrated on Thursday and the office today is still that of the Sunday. It's an "external" solemnity -- Mass without the office.

In Augusta there is zero acknowledgement of this great feast day. I guess it is too catholic

The feast day wasn't even mentioned at the Mass I attended today, except we were told that the Mass is the sacrifice of the laity as well as the priest's and that is why there should always be at least one person present when a priest celebrates Mass(!), overlooking of course that every Mass is the perfect sacrifice to the Father and there is nothing that pleases Him more - even if the priest offers the Mass alone because no one and nothing can add to the Mass.

I must say that as least the Mass was offered according to the rubrics with good hymns and music and even some Latin hymns thrown in and the priest in his sermon said that the division of the loaves and fishes was a miracle. Whereas in other sermons it has been said there was no miracle, merely that some felt guilty and dished out the food they had hidden on their persons(!). Then of course there was the sermon about submerged reef that St Peter was standing on when he appeared to walk on the water ...

You may find this article by a Protestant ironical. It seems that while American Evangilicals are becoming more Catholic in their thinking, American Catholics are becoming more Protestant in the sense of God and Country being on equal consideration.

We had Solemn High Mass followed by an outdoor procession.

I just attended the most beautiful Corpus Christie Mass at Most Holy Trinity in Augusta.
The choir, though small, was magnificent. There was Latin chant throughout the Mass starting with the processional, the Sequence, the offertory, the Salve Regina (which has become customary after communion!) all the way to the Tantum Ergo for the indoor Eucharistic procession which was done so reverently with incense and bells. The only improvement would be if it were celebrated ad orientem. I do wish that the Ef mass could be celebrated here also, but at least we have an opportunity to attend the EF locally at St. Mary's on the Hill (next one July 17).

I made the drive to Tallahassee today for the EF Mass celebrating Corpus Christi. After the Mass was a procession and Benediction. I sat watching and feeling so sorry for the millions of Catholics who have never had a chance to experience the EF, especially those who are misinformed about it and look upon it as a caricature of its actual reality. It would be wonderful if more of us could avail ourselves of this Mass without making an 80 mile drive. But for now, we pray and wait.

So glad the feast was observed at least in one parish in Augusta. I would have assisted at that mass if I had known of it. Good job holy trinity
