I think that General Petraeous definitely did the right thing. It is far better to be in front of a problem, as opposed to being caught behind the proverbial 8-ball.

While he must endure momentary shame and embarrassment, this isn't much different than going to a chapter of faults and admitting wrong doing, aside from being on an infinitely larger scale. That being said, he has a right to privacy, but at the same time, he also has a right to indulge whatever information he sees fit.

I applaud the General for doing the right thing and admitting his mistake and moving forward. I wish that all men were as forthcoming about their shortcomings, myself included.
