1965 TRIDENTINE MASS IN THE 1960'S AND IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN WITH THE 1962 MISSAL AND AN UNSCRUPULOUS CELEBRATION OF THE LOW MASS VERSION OF IT!

As a time warp, I do recall that most of us who went through this type of Mass in the 1960's still had 1950's personal piety and sense of the sacred for this stuff had not completely corrupted our collective memory of better days in the past. But the two old women do capture the sentiment of the day that in the older form of this Mass all you had to do was come to Mass and not think about a blessed thing! So holding hands at an EF Mass is not out of the question by any means!

The term "1965 Tridentine Mass" is a ridiculous contradiction in terms.

No, it cannot happen "again"--that not being an actual Mass in the Elvis video--with the 1962 missal, other than with a sacrilegious perversion of it.

Of course, one could take the lesson that by 1965 it was generally assumed that the 1962 rubrics were no longer inviolate, and that sacrilegious perversion is what--especially in the absence of effective priestly formation--can happen when rubrics are (as in the OF today) not taken to be inviolate.

My first and only attendance at a "folk Mass" was disturbing. More like a party than like worship. It's time for the Church to demonstrate that it can roll back mistakes, unlike our government.

That Elvis movie was epically bad. It was the first thing Elvis had to account for to St. Peter...

I suggest that it was this pathetic "Low Mass" culture that allowed the destruction of the liturgy to happen. If we implemented the chant as St. Piux X pleaded and the "actuoso particpatio" and the Dialogue Mass first encouraged by Pius IX and musical rubrics for the Read Mass in Da musicam sacram et sacram liturgiam of Bl. Pius XII no Catholic would have allowed it.

If I ever find anyone in Toronto putting on a charade as this, there will be hell to pay!

Clear as day when the profane was allowed to enter the Church all thoughts drifted from the purpose of being there. All perfectly evidenced by Mary Tyler Moore's apparent internal conflict between the images of Christ and thoughts Holy and a man (Elvis) who she is attracted to and thinks of leaving the sisterhood for. Anyone who has seen this awful movie knows the plot. She is conflicted. This type of Mass did nothing for the Church but take away from God and put the focus on man. It is seen clear as day here. What an awful time.
