REQUIESCAT IN PACE, PENNY LORD--SHE AND HER HUSBAND UNDERSTOOD THE NEW EVANGELIZATION AND THIS WAS PRIOR TO POPE FRANCIS!

Penny Lord and her husband Bob for years has had an EWTN show that showcased the various shrines having to do with the Blessed Mother and the saints around the world. They promoted old fashioned popular devotions in a time in the Church when these were ridiculed by the academic iconoclasts of the early post Vatican II period. These academics and neo-academics looked down upon the simple faith of a great number of laity and tried to destroy it as best they could. But they didn't bargain on Pope Francis coming to the rescue!

This is what Pope Francis has to say about popular devotions in his recent Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium:

Popular piety enables us to see how the faith, once received, becomes embodied in a culture and is constantly passed on. Once looked down upon (in the early post-Vatican II period), popular piety came to be appreciated once more in the decades following the Council....On (my) beloved (South American) continent, where many Christians express their faith through popular piety, the bishops refer to it as "popular spirituality" or "the people's mysticism". It is truly "a spirituality incarnated in the culture of the lowly."

...Underlying popular piety, as a fruit of the inculturated Gospel, is an active evangelizing power which we must not underestimate: to do so would be to fail to recognize the work of the Holy Spirit. Instead, we are called to promote and strengthen it, in order to deepen the never-ending process of inculturation. Expressions of popular piety have much to teach us; for those who are capable of reading them, they are the locus theolgoicus which demands our attention, especially at a time when we are looking to the new evangelization...

R.I.P. Penny Lord. What a wonderful, wonderful human being. I remember watching her and Bob on EWTN back in the 90's ( and of course in re runs). I'll pray for her soul and I'll pray for Bob in his sorrow. Penny did so much to spread love for Our Lord, His Blessed Mother and the Church. He devotion to the saints was indeed remarkable. She will be missed.

Sammy,

That was rude; you clearly don't know what you are talking about. Bob loves Penny more than he loves himself- and she felt the same way about him. With the help of God's grace, they helped each other get through the devastation they felt at the loss of their child. I have never witnessed a stronger bond between a husband and wife.

Rest in peace, Penny Lord. I will pray for the repose of your soul and ask God to provide strength and comfort to Bob during this time of sorrow. I offer my tears for his behalf.

Carol, I didn't read the end of the nasty comment and if a Catholic posted it, it tells us of the sad state of our Catholic people who would do it. Corruption! Fr. McD

Thank you, Father! I almost sent you a reprisal about that "Sammy" post, but didn't have time; am very glad Carol did and you removed it. My daughter worked at EWTN, and has nothing but good to say about the Lords. That Sammy-comment was beyond disrespectful.
Read your post comments to the end please, including mine! Never allow us to be disrespectful...thanks.

Rest in peace, my dear Penny! You and Bob praised Our Lord, His Blessed Mother, and His Holy Saints while here on earth. Now, Penny, you are among them! Thank you, Dear Lord, for the gift of Penny Lord!

Dear Penny, if only you knew how much you have
influenced me not to just love Jesus, but to FALL IN LOVE with Him!!!! Thank you, sweet, kind Penny! Without your EWTN shows along with your beloved husband Bob, I don't know how I ever would have had a conversion and become as close to Jesus, Mary, and all the Saints as I have come to be, for sixteen years now.

Rest in Peace, Penny! May Our Lord comfort your husband Bob in his sorrow at this time; may his comfort be knowing that you are with Our Lord now, safely with Him. A job well done, Penny and Bob! You've saved many souls with your work and ministries, myself included! Thank you; I am very grateful to you!
