WE ALL KNEW THAT OUR WONDERFUL, ORTHODOX AND NEW POPE, POPE LEO WOULD MAKE CLEAR WHAT SYNODALITY IS AND HE HAS!

In an October 2025 message signed by Cardinal Secretary of State Parolin, Pope Leo XIV sent his thoughts to a conference of the Camaldolese congregation on "synodality," emphasizing that "walking together is the style of life and mission of the Church". He expressed hope that the study days would foster a renewed understanding of this concept, explaining that authentic synodality involves the participation of all the baptized while also respecting the authority of the college of bishops.

  • Key message:
"Walking together is the style of life and mission of the Church".
  • Significance of synodality:
The Pope views synodality not just as a method, but as the Church's very way of life, which requires listening and discernment.
  • Inclusivity and authority:
He noted that synodality requires the participation of all the baptized, but it cannot disregard the authority Christ gave to the college of bishops, headed by the Successor of Peter.
  • Conference context:
The message was sent to a theological conference at the Hermitage of Camaldoli focused on the figure and ministry of the bishop within a synodal church.

This will cause those in the Vatican and the blog “Where Francis Was” heartache and indigestion:

Well I guess the TLM will be protected if Pope Leo remembers the parable of the 99 Lambs!

New encyclical…

I am convinced that the preferential choice for the poor is a source of extraordinary renewal both for the church and for society," the pope wrote in Dilexi Te.

Preferential option for the poor…. Sounds like liberation theology is officially back in vogue!

Progressive professional Catholics hardest hit. Nice to see the formlessness of "synoding" being given the shape for which many were begging for years.

Well the synod on synodity process was to discern the form synodity could take within the Catholic Church and Leo has firmly committed himself to continue in this direction set by Francis.
