The completely out of focus liturgical abuses in the Modern Mass and not the exception but the rule!
If you thought, like Mike Lewis does (in his unhinged alternate universe) that the TLM is the greatest liturgical problem for the Church causing all kinds of problems for unity, think again!
Pope Leo opined in the Crux interview: “I do know that part of that issue, unfortunately, has become – again, part of a process of polarization – people have used the liturgy as an excuse for advancing other topics. It’s become a political tool, and that’s very unfortunate. I think sometimes the, say, ‘abuse’ of the liturgy from what we call the Vatican II Mass, was not helpful for people who were looking for a deeper experience of prayer, of contact with the mystery of faith that they seemed to find in the celebration of the Tridentine Mass. Again, we’ve become polarized, so that instead of being able to say, well, if we celebrate the Vatican II liturgy in a proper way, do you really find that much difference between this experience and that experience?”
My comment: Of course Pope Leo implicitly acknowledges the mess of how the Vatican II Liturgy is celebrated. And in fact, implied too, is that also the Vatican II Mass is used “as an excuse for advancing other topics.” It, the Vatican II Mass, is used as a kind of political tool, to advance LGBTQ+++ colonizing ideologies and using the Vatican II Mass to do it as well as advancing women’s ordination and the like. Pope Leo response to this question was brilliant.
Pope Francis' primary document on the liturgy is the apostolic letter Desiderio desideravi, issued on June 29, 2022, which serves as a reflection on the Eucharist and the importance of liturgical formation to help Catholics rediscover the beauty and wonder of the Mass. The letter encourages full and active participation in the liturgy as an encounter with the living Christ, and also focuses on disciplinary issues or abuses.
And while Pope Francis acknowledged liturgical abuses in the Modern Mass, unlike with Traditionis Custodis where Pope Francis made sure that the Dicastery of Divine Worship micromanaged bishops in order to implement TC and Cardinal Roche even forbade parishes from advertising the TLM in their bulletin, there was no such authoritarian crackdown on liturgical abuses with the release of Desiderio desideravi.
And liturgical abuses in the Modern Mass advance as on steroids and no one, let alone the “Where Francis Was” blog even blinks an eye or gets unhinged.
