It’s one thing to read what Pope Leo said about changing doctrines, quite another thing when you listen to his very words in this regard.
Jesuitical Father James Martin, SJ, desiring from the bottom of his sacred soul that the Church will change Catholic sexual morality as taught by Scripture and Tradition and the Deposit of Faith, was gleeful when he tweeted that Pope Leo said we have to change attitudes before we change doctrine.
He thought, in his most Jesuitical way, that Pope Leo was calling for everyone in the Church who are opposed to changing sexual morality of the Church, to change their attitude about no change so that change can take place and no one will feel excluded by having to give up their sexual sins through conversion and repentance.
But when I heard Pope Leo say what he said, I hear him being a bit incredulous that people want the Church to change Scripture, Tradition and the Magisterium of the Church about the sinfulness of certain sexual acts outside of a licit marriage between one man and one woman, for a lifetime, and for the begetting of children and Christian families, the core of society.
They have to change their attitudes before doctrine can be changed, which is a bit of an American English colloquialism. In other words:

This is going to set him against the entrenched homosexual factions in the Church. They will probably continue to flaunt their Satanic masses and misinterpret Church and the Pope's teachings successfully because people will get limited and misleading information through their participating clergy and religious. I think the Pope is not strong enough politically, and more importantly, financially, to rebuff or correct Mr. Martin and his associates.
Father James Martin, S.J., is not alone in regard to the spin that he had placed upon Pope Leo XIV's declaration in question. Here is one of such numerous examples:

-- Leo XIV publicly doubts Catholic teaching on sexual morality and the immutability of dogma
(LifeSiteNews) — In his first extended interview, Leo XIV fell short of affirming the immutability of the Church’s teaching on sexual morality, and strongly implied that changes could be possible in the future.

Numerous left-wingers, as well as right-wingers, have advanced the above spin.
However, I am not concerned in regard to the "controversy" in question. The reason is that Pope Leo XIV's Magisterial pronouncements will always prove orthodox.
Thanks to the promise of Jesus Christ, Pope Leo XIV will preserve the Catholic Religion in immaculate fashion.
Pax.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the difference between dogma doctrine and teaching and what can change / develop and what can’t. Perhaps Leo should address this issue within his next encyclical.
Certainly Leo never said dogma or doctrine can change.
OMG Trump’s really lost the plot and gone bonkers now, how did you elect such a dangerous nut?

Apparently London wants sharia law. A not so subtle racist attack on our ethnic mayor. Where’s he get this stuff from. It was the far right’s screed about 5 years ago.
Last time the UN laughed at his speech. Scarcely this time they were to scared to, including his ridiculous claim that he solved 7 wars.

Trump is swapping the New Testament for the old!

Sounds like Leo is considering a broader reconsideration of the liturgy rather than the liberalisation of the TLM!
Congratulations Father. Looks like you found some competition for the resident buffoon in the multiple-post-talk-to-myself derby.
Big Benny,
That is only one of the countless lies Trump told during his address at the United Nations:

According to many renowned Catholic authorities, such as the proponents of the New Natural Law Theory, lying is an intrinsic evil:
https://www.nlnrac.org/contemporary/new-natural-law-theory.html#_ednref16
“The New Natural Law position holds that there are moral absolutes, that is, norms that specify certain acts as of a sort that are always and everywhere not to be done. This can be seen in the New Natural Law approach to lies and lying. Following both Augustine and Aquinas, the New Natural Lawyers hold that it is always wrong to lie. Lies are almost always a violation of justice, are always unloving to one’s interlocutor, and they always violate the integrity and authenticity of the liar.”
It is beyond me how so many MAGA types, including some Catholics who post on this Blog, can support such an inveterate, compulsive liar as Trump and bend over backwards to make excuses for his lies, such as “Biden and Obama lied too.” Yes, they did, but NOTHING can even begin to compare to the incessant and voluminous lying engaged in by Trump.
And in case it isn’t already obvious, I cannot abide lying. It corrupts all conversation and corrodes all trust. And we all know who the “Father of Lies” is, don’t we?

This blog ain't big enough for one of 'em, let alone two. Just start your own blog at that point, really now.
Nick
Big Benny,
If these comments about the Blog not being big enough for two are intended to refer to you (as I suspect they are), pay no heed. The first to complain about cancellation of freedom of speech on the part of “the Left” are the first to cancel others and so you are told to “start your own blog”—a hypocrisy we see wonderfully exhibited by Trump and the MAGA movement. Anyway, the commentators here would have more credibility if they also complained about the serial poster TJM, but of course you will never see that happening. One must ask oneself why this is the case, and the answer is glaringly obvious. It’s fine to bombard with comments attacking “liberals” or those defending Pope Francis or the Francis legacy because they line up with the so-called “conservative” groupthink or MAGA groupthink, but woe to you if you dare challenge such views. One of the great merits of Father McDonald’s Blog is that he does allow a diversity of views to be expressed, for which he is to be commended.
So, welcome, and do not be deterred.
Mark J.
P.S. And you notice there is no comment about all the lies told by the “Buffoon-in-Chief” in the White House—you know, the one who brought peace between Aberjan and Albania and who tells pregnant women not to take Tylenol (I’m surprised he didn’t advise then to inject themselves with bleach). And Biden was unfit (which he was, but there’s that hypocrisy again)?
Mark J.
Thanks. It only makes me more determined. My nature is like a dog with a bone.
The MAgA worldview is seriously distorted and needs to be challenged on every distortion at every opportunity! At least Leo has made clear he’s not a Trump supporter.
Mark,
How many posts on the front page have serial, repeated comments from TJM? If he did it more frequently, I'd complain about it more, as I've done in the past. But ooooh because I didn't this time, therefore it's "cancelling the Left's freedom of speech" and hypocrisy and groupthink et cetera etc.
Nick
Last I checked, "tRump" doesn't comment on this blog. I'd have a field day if he did.
Nick
Glad we agree about challenging distorted worldviews, benny.
Nick
Nick:
If you have complained about serial comments from TJM in the past, I stand corrected. This said, I recall some of those serial episodes on the part of TJM and BB and MT don’t even come close.
In any event, isn’t it rather ungracious of Jerome to suggest that BB competes with MT for the title of “resident buffoon” and of you to seek to banish BB (not to mention that you would thereby be depriving me of a companion British perspective -:)).
Mark J.
It's not a matter of banishing, just a matter of showing some restraint or finding one's own soapbox.
