Now might be a good time to report on your "first last Holy Communion" as a priest. The Sacrament of the Sick and viaticum administered as death approaches has positive externalities beyond the inestimable benefits to the recipient: it is loving comfort to those attendant to deathbed; it is a practical example of God's love.
I'd venture to guess that if your "first" one wasn't quite memorable, that it wasn't too long before you had an unforgettable experience.
The distribution of holy communion taken seriously within the Roman Church. Bravo. If nothing else, down the road these children should remember this moment as one of being humble, RECEIVING as opposed to TAKING and what respect is. As I have said before, we either believe this or we don't. If we do, our comportment at all times should be reflective of that belief. Otherwise, we're just protestant and none of it matters.
This, btw, includes the EM's, who insist on making "reception" (really "the taking") an "experience" some of which have that fakey s-eating grin/smile while doing it then, being either completely clueless or, haughty when we approach desiring to receive on the tongue to limit the number of people handling the consecrated host. It's just so cringe and levels the authority of the presbyterate despite any practicalities it claims to have.
