POST VATICAN II GONE WILD, CONSERVATIVE’S TRIUMPHALISM AND PROGRESSIVE ROT

When I watched this live, I thought this cult of the personality was thoroughly horrible. We owe most of it to post Vatican II papal globe trotting. Proir to Vatican II this sort of papal idolatry would have been isolated to Rome and St. Peter's Basilica or Square.

Well, yes, since popes didn't travel outside the Vatican or Rome, I guess you are right about where this sort of thing happened.

Calling it "idolatry," however, is more than a touch of hyperbole. Was it idolatry when 5,000 men, not counting women and children, followed Jesus? Was it idolatry when over 100,000 people attended the funeral of St. Padre Pio?

Well… you make my point. Jesus is God, the others aren’t. No idolatry with worshiping the true God…

Actually, I explode your point, unless you are prepared to call the 100,000+ who attended Padre Pio's funeral "idolaters." Ars they?

I've been pretty critical of John Paul II sometimes and I have come to see that, in most of those cases, I was wrong. Either Wojtyla or Ratzinger--I forget which one--once replied that the crowds didn't come to see them (them personally), but that they came to see Peter.

Even the most stubborn Protestants know in their hearts that it is ONLY the Catholic Church that has the unbroken succession that leads directly back to the 12 apostles. It is only natural that this connection would draw people. Idolatry? Come on, cut these poor people some slack.

Father McDonald,

You are dealing with a Democrat whose party says abortion is “healthcare.” You can’t reason with him. The more Popes expose themselves to the crowds the more the papacy is diminished. The papal globetrotting has not resulted in more faithful Catholics, that’s for sure
