On a related note, I had the distinct honor to the a pallbearer for the priest who baptized me, Msgr. Felix Donnelly, and for the bishop who ordained me, Bishop Raymond Lessard.
The high calling we receive at Baptism is a frequent aspect of my preaching. Yes, indeed, it all does go back to that moment, whatever our later calling(s) in life. Even this morning at mass - "Peter, do you love me?" - we are reminded of the connection between loving the Lord and acting on that love - "Feed my sheep" - which is made possible through grace - the grace we first encountered at Baptism.
Father McDonald, off topic but I thought you might be interested in Bishop Paprocki's decree on denying Holy Communion to fake catholic politicians (should also extend it to priests who vote for them):

Good for the bishop of Springfield! He has his hands full in a state that is sliding toward financial and moral insolvency, to which that Madigan crowd contributes greatly. Now if the bishop of Joe Biden's Delaware would take the same action against him as the former vice president now opposes the Hyde Amendment, which greatly restricts federal funding of abortion. I guess (unfortunately) the greatest "danger" in the Democratic contest for president is not being "liberal enough" on that issue. Biden keeps talking about the constitutional "right" to abortion, but even with a new pair of glasses, I still can't find the word "abortion" in the Constitution. Can someone help me find it?
