Starsky Robotics, a San Francisco-based technology startup, is seeking to hire 100 truck drivers so it will have enough qualified to drive trucks remotely when it begins removing humans from its trucks in 2020.
Driverless semi-trucks could be sharing Florida highways as early as next year, and there will be no requirement that surrounding motorists know it.
Nor will autonomous driving systems need to be tested, inspected, or certified before being deployed under a new state law that takes effect July

It can be a great idea. I would love to have one of those self driving electric cars so I can site see when going somewhere. It is all about the rules that are in the program. People don’t follow rules very well.
Will speeding "driverless" trucks be pulled over by driverless cop cars?

I would prefer that the truck drivers be able to keep their jobs; many of them have families to support.
I agree, Carol, but I also think people can be relieved of hazardous and uninteresting work while also increasing the efficiency and safety for everyone else. if automation is viewed, and used, as a method to reduce labor then it would miss the point. The same drivers can be used in other related tasks such as monitoring and evaluating the performance of the trucks, delivery systems, load requests and bids, etc. I can be done to enhance the quality of life and not just to remove workers. Maybe they can design masks for the trucks. ;-)
