On Saturday, June first, the four of us in the photo below celebrated the ordination of a new priest for our diocese, Fr. Patrick May of Augusta. Fr. Patrick and his family were members of the Church of the Most Holy Trinity when I was pastor there from 1991to 2004. He served as an altar boy and his mother reminded me that I also gave him his First Holy Communion.
That night after St. Anne's Saturday "Vigil" Mass, Fr. Drew Larkin, our newly former parochial vicar joined us for the baptism of our new outdoor grille. The next morning he left for Little Flower Church in Washington, DC where he will live while he attends Catholic University for a Canon Law degree. I have been quite distressed by his departure, btw.
Pictured on our screened-in porch are Fr. Drew, Seminarian Will Cook, new Deacon Nate Swann and the old guy I don't recognize. I acquired from Publix some of the best T-bone steaks I have ever acquired. Microwaved bake potatoes and grilled asparagus, simply delicious!

This is great to see. Father McDonald and all priests need healthy companionship and socialization. Nothing better than a full rectory!
It’s going to be a great summer for you! Blessings to all.
That's my kind of meal!!
I see that beautiful new grill in the photo in the post below. Very nice. You need cast iron or steel skillets to roast vegetables donated from the gardens of parishioners and to cook the occasional catfish, squirrel, rabbit, pigeon, dove, or ‘gator.
RCG, or maybe snakes too! Lots of rattlesnakes and water moccasins along the Georgia coast! One time at my summer camp in Alabama, a counselor caught a rattlesnake, and of course it became dinner!
Yep, they have big snakes in the low country. I have become enamored with asian carp. 30 lbs of free fish is hard to beat.
"Screened porch" no doubt is essential being below the "Gnat Line". Probably hard to catch those critters (gnats)---they can eat you alive it seems! And the foursome should feel no guilt about eating red meat after the latest health news that "white meat" is no better for you (in terms of cholesterol) than "red meat". Of course as the saying goes, moderation is the key!
Father, I note the following:
- You put on a nicer shirt.
- No wine with steak? Alas.
Also, a piece of advice. Always move your dead soldiers in front of someone else on the table. You never know when someone will take a picture.
On the other post with the two seminarians and me and I wearing my t-shrit, we sent via text message these photos to my former parochial vicar to chastise him for not getting the grill himself which I had asked him to do. The Marine got it for us, alas.
I texted to Fr. Drew that the two had turned the rectory into a frat house. Then the Marine Will, texted this: "Ha, note how Fr.'s already wearing a supper fratty deep-v!
