I don't care for this mixing of rites and then, a poor mix. PF is wearing a preaching stole to look like an epitrachil as he is in an Eastern Christian country and Eastern clergy are con celebrating.
Sorry for multiple postings, I'm on my phone. Anyhow, he should just vest properly for the Roman Mass and not try to represent something that does not exist and then, with a Roman Vestment. It's like costuming.
Traditionally, when the Pope wears a mozzetta (this one doesn't) he wears a stole over it. When it's red, so is the stole. When it's white during the Easter week (Benedict XVI extended this to the whole Easter season), so is the stole. This stole appears to be the white one. Here's a link showing these: https://www.liturgicalartsjournal.com/2018/01/the-value-of-vestural-traditions-call.html
It is beautiful and uplifting to watch the Vicar of Christ, Pope Francis, our holy and great Shepherd, leading God's holy and joyful flock to the Way, Truth, and Life in Bulgaria/Macedonia.
God's Holy People greeted Pope Francis with a tremendous welcome. They displayed great love and respect for His Holiness.
"Pope Francis received an enthusiastic welcome this morning from tens of thousands of Bulgarians when he visited the small town of Rakovski in southwest Bulgaria to celebrate Mass and give first holy Communion to 245 children.
"He is the first pope to come to Rakovski, and the people’s joy was apparent. They waved flags and banners, chanted, applauded and cheered as he passed by in the popemobile. Francis got down from the vehicle to walk among them, shake hands and bless young and old."
God has blessed us with a Pope beloved by a massive amount of Catholics and non-Catholics.
As Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said last month:
“I would like to thank Pope Francis for everything he does to show us, again and again, the light of God, which has not disappeared, even today.
"Thank you, Holy Father!”
Also..."thank you" to our Heavenly Father, our Majestic God, for His holy and great gift to us - Pope Francis.
With obvious love and joy in their hearts, the Holy People of God in Bulgaria/Macedonia are united to our beloved holy and great Vicar of Christ, Pope Francis.
In a way, this post is reminding me of the one from one to two weeks back regarding the departing archbishop of Atlanta and the light attendance at his farewell mass. Thinking about that, wouldn't it have been better to have simply blended the farewell with a scheduled Sunday mass (perhaps for his intention) followed by coffee etc where he would have been available to greet the faithful? That seems more sensible to me as opposed to what was done and what I am guessing was embarrassment that the multitudes were not in attendance to laud/worship man along with our Lord? I think this perhaps could be an interesting topic to explore but, where does one draw the line with such masses so that (at least, in my opinion) it does not become an abuse of the sacrament? If necessary, there are other liturgies outside of mass, such as vespers, that could have been celebrated. Maybe I am totally off-base or, maybe I have just been in the East too long but, it seems as though the Novus Ordo Roman Church will offer the holy sacrifice for just about any reason outside of the ones that are familiar and expected. Is this potential overreliance an abuse? I would be curious and grateful to hear the thoughts of others here.
He should be dressed properly according to his rite. Authority does not go over charity. I'm with ByzRC, it looks ridiculous on him. If he was goig for the omophorion, he should have actually worn the one that's proper to Bishops (the Pallium would be the equivalent.).....Oh how far Rome has fallen in the 6 years of humility (TM)
Joe - If that's you, you are correct, the omophorion and then, I suppose what PF wore would be most similar to the small omophorion. A hierarch's epitrachil would be underneath their sakkos and belted with the poyas.
Now, now Anonymous, every good Catholic knows that according to Amoris Laetitia, one can now argue that Trump had discerned that he was doing the best that he could at the time, knowing that he was still in God's good graces.
Therefore not at all like abortion, although Francis may soon find a way to make abortion fabulous.
Think for a moment of how things would have been so different if only the ancient Israelites had been as enlightened as Francis.
They could have reminded Moses that as a group they had discerned that the golden calf issue was merely doing the best that they could at the moment, and Yahweh was okay with it. Then they could thank Moses for the ten commandments which would allow them to identify those 'rigid neo-pelagians' before there was even pelagians.
Wow! If only they had known this 'God of surprises' in the way that Francis has taught us.
The stole was a gift given to the Pope in Bulgaria. He prefers to wear plain attire, but it would have been rude if he did not wear it. It reminds me of the one he couldn't wait to take off when he was named Pope, albeit a different color.

So did St. John Paul II in 1985!

Luckily it's not an impediment to canonization.
ByzRC: Maybe Francis finally read last year's article by Sandro Magister about St Paul VI and the new liturgy:

What a monumental gift it is to be Catholic.

Dan,
Of course!

TJM I don’t have time or interest to read and screen political comments. Let’d Stick to the topic of this post.
Father McDonald,
You left in Anonymous K's at 8:30 am.
I am also perplexed why you continue to post MT's rantings on PF. Farewell
