HOW DO WE FORM CATHOLIC YOUTH WHO WILL BE COMMITTED TO THE CHURCH?
I hope that the synod fathers asked those religious orders that are swimming against the tide of post-Vatican II dumbing down of religious life, how it is they have so many young candidates.
I would recommend asking the young in these orders:
"I always try to understand what's behind people who are too young to have experienced the pre-conciliar liturgy and yet still they want it," the pontiff said. "Sometimes I found myself confronted with a very strict person, with an attitude of rigidity. And I ask myself: Why so much rigidity? Dig, dig, this rigidity always hides something, insecurity or even something else. Rigidity is defensive."
Haven't you heard, Francis don't want no stinking rigid people in his church...
My daughter is a Postulant in Nashville. It is a beautiful community and is thriving. I asked a Dominican Priest friend of mine why he believes the Religious Communities in Nashville and at the House of Studies in Washington, DC are so attractive in their so called "rigidity". Answer: Clarity. The young men and women that are flocking to these places are smart, healthy and desire the clarity and purpose these communities offer. It ain't rocket science.
