48 HOURS AND SOMETHING

Today is Friday, tomorrow is Saturday and day after tomorrow is Sunday.

Today I have my last funeral as pastor of St. Joseph Church. God rest her soul. It is at 11:00 AM.

I will visit our former pastor who at 87 suffers from dementia and has been in an assisted living facility for the past four years or so. Msgr. John Cuddy was pastor here from 1974 to 2004 when I came and remained assisting with Masses and other ministries until he was unable to do so in recent years.

This evening I have two wedding rehearsals at 5 and 6 PM.

Tomorrow, Saturday, I have the 8:00 AM Mass.

At 10:00 AM I have a baptism in the Extraordinary Form.

At 1:30 PM I have a wedding.

At 3PM I will hear confessions.

At 6:30 PM I have a wedding.

On Sunday I have the 7:45 AM Mass.

I have the 9:30 AM Mass.

Following the 9:30 AM Mass there is a farewell reception for me in the social hall.

By 11:30 AM or so I will be given my parish gift. I will offer my final blessing and will get into my automobile and depart for a week of vacation and settling into my new rectory in Richmond Hill.

On Wednesday, June 22nd I become the new pastor of Saint Anne Church in Richmond Hill.

What is baptism "in the extraordinary form"?

Fr. Allan J. McDonald said...

It is the pre-Vatican II baptismal rite requested by a young family for their new born infant.

How does that (pre-Vatican 2 baptismal rite) differ from the modern version?

I agree with the comment by Tony and Ceres. I hope things go well for you at your new parish.

I join all the well-wishers here. We are also losing Father Kavanaugh from the Macon deanery. I am sad to see both of you go but am sure that our loss will be your new parishioners’ gain and that God knows what He is doing.

I hope your new parishioners know or discover quite promptly what they have with you as their Pastor. It pains me to lose you here; my only solace is that we have been blessed to have you for these past years and you have done wonderful things for us and our parish - we can't be so selfish that we wouldn't want another parish to have the benefit and experience, now can we? We are so grateful for all you have given us and we wish you and your new parish all the best.
