CHEERS TO POPE BENEDICT LOOKING VERY GERMAN ON HIS 88TH BIRTHDAY AND TO POPE FRANCIS LOOKING VERY POPE BENEDICT ON PALM SUNDAY!
Happy birthday to Pope Benedict on his 88th birthday today. I suspect a good brew has kept him healthy and happy in emeritushood!
Not related other than a nice photo of Pope Francis wearing a very nice cope on Palm Sunday:

I just saw a documentary on Pope St. John Paul II. It brought back memories of his strength and determination to endure amidst grave physical challenges. And the Cardinal of Krackow stated how John Paul would never come down from the cross. Not to judge Pope Benedict but I have to say that he did indeed come off the cross and walk away. He looks fine. It is not mandated that a pope has to fly all over the world and appeal to large gatherings of young people. This was all an invention of recent papacies. Pope Benedict could have done his duty by simply staying in his apartment making occasional appearances and doing real reform in the Church. Example, he could have concentrated on Catholic institutions of learnings demanding they teach the Faith or close them down. What a great contribution that would have been. But he didn't he said he was tired and walked away. And look at the mess the Church is in as a result. Daily chaos from Rome. Only God can save the Church from the self destructive path she has been on since Vatican II. But I guess God has given us the pope we deserve, not the pope we need.
If a "liberal"...."modernist" Pope had bailed out like Benedict did....then hung around drinking beer, most folks here would have been on him like a pack of wolves....

My thoughts exactly. I love him but he abandoned us.

Have some madeira, m'dear. It's really much nicer than beer.
I don't care for sherry, one cannot drink stout, and port is a wine I can well do without...
It's simply a case of chacun a son gout!
