IT'S A NO BRAINER!

We celebrated First Holy Communion today for our second graders, about 55 of them. There was nothing childish about it though, incense, holy water and completely sung including all the priest's parts and congregation parts. I sang the epiclesis and consecration. But the best part each child came up directly to the front of the altar and received Holy Communion kneeling, by way of intinction and on the tongue; there was no Holy Communion on the run and it was absolutely splendid, a no-BRAINER!

This is my first post using my iPhone. Don't have photos but hope to in the future.

Father, I was pleasantly surprised! It was absolutely beautiful witnessing the children receive our Lord for the first time with such reverance.

Well done, Father, well done!

Really enjoy reading your blog. Found my way over here by way of "Father Z". Just a question, regarding intinction. I was in Assisi a few months ago. Our local parish Priest was saying Mass. We received by intinction. One of our parishoners was in quite a huff about it...saying it was forbidden. What are the "rules" from the USCCB regarding intiction? By the way...your "reform of the reform" of the Ordinary Form is WONDERFUL!

Intinction is legal when the minister is the one who does it. Self intinction is forbidden.

First Communion kneeling. Do you have any idea how rare that would be outside of FSSP parishes? When I read this I was reminded of Psalm 136, Upon the Rivers of Babylon....

Vonito: Actually I believe Father may have served this Diocese as it's Vocations Director once. I could be wrong though.

rcg: First Communion Kneeling, truly a Blessed and rare event in an NO Parish to be sure. Sadly, they will all be standing next week.

Yes I was for almost 12 years and not necessarily next week, sadly, but whenever some of their parents bring them to Mass again!

Ouch!! Your sadness trumps mine Father. I hadn't even considered that Parents who cared enough to have their child receive the Sacrament might not show up again the following week. Wow, that's hypocrisy on a grand scale. Why bother at all?

Beautiful Mass. Thank you!

As another reader of Fr. Z's blog (and one who's blessed enough to be able to attend St. Joseph's), I'd like to chime in. I was deeply moved witnessing such a beautiful First Communion Mass. I have to think that a child's first experiencing the source and summit of Christian life in such a reverent way will only serve to solidify the importance and gravity of the sacrament in his/her mind. You've given the children and all of us present at that Mass a great gift, Father. Thank you.
