I AM SURE THEY’LL BE LIVING AS BROTHERS UNTIL THEY CAN GET THEIR MARRIAGE CONVALIDATED…

 This is from Lifesite news:

(LifeSiteNews) — Fr. James Martin, a Jesuit priest and LGBT activist, made headlines once again as openly homosexual ABC News correspondent Gio Benitez credited him for bringing him back into the Catholic Church “exactly as I am.” His partner Tommy DiDario — whom he referred to as his husband — served as his sponsor.

Benitez, a weekend co-anchor on Good Morning Americashared a video of his Confirmation Mass at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle in Manhattan on Monday.

My musings:

My understanding of Canon Law, and perhaps the Supreme Canon Lawyer of the Church, Pope Leo XIV can clear up any confusion that I have, is that in order to receive a non-Catholic into the Church, there must be some evidence of conversion to the Church’s Faith and Morals.

If that person is in an irregular “marriage” that marriage must be convalidated after having gone through a canonical process to see if the marriage can be convalidated. The person or couple cannot be received into the Church until their marriage can be regularized by the Church.

However, if the person promises to live without sexual relations in their irregular “marriage”, that person then could be admitted to the Sacraments of the Church, Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist, or if already in a valid Baptism, they could be received into the full Communion of the Church through the Sacraments of Penance, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist as a part of their Profession of Faith. A part of that Profession of Faith is this: “I profess and believe all that the Holy Catholic Church believes, professes and teaches, to be revealed by God”

Evidently, though, the Archdiocese of New York, through their Cardinal Archbishop Timothy Dolan must have given one of its parishes, The Church of Saint Paul the Apostle,  a “dispensation” to follow Artificial Intelligence about how two men in a civil “marriage” can be received into the Catholic Church, rather than the Canon Law and moral teachings of the Church. That can be the only valid possibility, no?

I copy this from the AI description of this, I just googled:

Yes, two men in a civil marriage can become Catholic by undergoing a process called
convalidation to have their marriage recognized by the Church
. However, they must not be able to receive the sacrament of marriage within the Church because the Catholic Church does not recognize same-sex marriage. Instead, their civil union will be considered a non-sacramental marriage until the church can bless their marriage.
Process to become Catholic
  1. Contact a parish priest: The couple should meet with a priest at their local Catholic parish to discuss their situation and begin the process.
  2. Follow Catholic teaching: The couple must agree to live according to Catholic teaching, which includes not engaging in sexual relations until their marriage is blessed.
  3. Participate in formation: The couple will need to participate in preparatory sessions or courses with a mentor couple or priest.
  4. Obtain a declaration of nullity: If either person was previously married, they will need a declaration of nullity for that previous marriage from the church.
  5. Convalidation: The couple can then have their marriage blessed through a process called convalidation, which may include a simple ceremony before a priest or deacon and two witnesses.

Isn't it disallowed to marry one's sponsor/godparent?

It’s not marriage, it’s a blessing of a civil union!

Clearly opposed to FS, Pope Francis and Pope Leo. Individual not immoral unions are blessed. Sin is never blessed.
