THE NATIONAL CATHOLIC REPORTER CALLS CARDINAL PAROLIN’S AUDITION FOR POPE A FLOP! YOU READ THAT CORRECTLY!

April 30, 2025 at 8:48am

Front-runner Parolin's audition is a flop

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, former Vatican secretary of state, reads his homily while celebrating Mass on the second day of the second day of the "novendiali" -- nine days of mourning for Pope Francis marked by Masses -- in St. Peter's Square April 27, 2025. (CNS photo/Pablo Esparza)

Cardinal Pietro Parolin had an audition of sorts for pope on Sunday and the reviews are in and hey aren't good. Parolin, seen as a front-runner for the seat of St. Peter, said Mass for 200,000 young people in St. Peter's Square. He praised Pope Francis, but his stilted style left him unable to connect with a crowd. As one cardinal-elector told the National Catholic Reporter, the Mass was a reminder of Francis' charisma and communication gifts and that Parolin lacks both.

BUT THEN, THE NCR FREAKS OUT OVER INSULTS HURLED AT THEIR PREFERRED CANDIDATE, CARDINAL TAGLE! THIS COMMENTARY IS OVER THE TOP AND SHOWS THE FEAR OF THE NCR AT THIS JUNCTURE IN PAPAL HISTORY:

Another source reporting on this homily, described many angry cardinals who felt it was not appropriate. The next day, a different Cardinal gave a much more muted homily.

It is good to know Tagle didn't sing a communist anthem. The fact remains that he was fired from his Vatican post for incompetence, which must have been great in magnitude to be fired from the Vatican for it in this day and age. Great that he's humble, humble, humble but if he can't run a minor Vatican office without getting canned, the cardinals would have to be mad to punt him irreversibly to the very top for his lifetime.

NcR must truly have some horror at the possibility of Sarah's election, given the number of leftist cliches they apply in talking about him. I don't think he has much of a chance, but it's really interesting that they have an even stronger reaction against him than they did to Ratzinger/Benedict.

IMHO, this is exactly what's wrong with the papacy in current form.

Administratively more efficient, perhaps, but the synodal process that exists in the East largely eliminates special interests, innovation etc.

The NCR would bring doing cartwheels if Card. Taggle had strummed a guitar and sang Kumbaya and Day by Day!

As for Imagine, I imagine a Church today had Sarah been elected instead of Bergoglio, likely a far far far better Church today in ALL respects had that happened, than the out of control landfill fire of today. However, he is now too old to make all the required changes, and what we need is a younger version of Sarah.

As for Tagel, as mentioned above, he was found lacking in ability to run a Vatican office, and so him running the entire Vatican would likely be doubted by too many other cardinals for him to be elected. As for the defense of Lennon's Imagine with some altered lyrics by Tagel as making it acceptable, his same defenders on this issue would no doubt be outraged were I to post a song glorifying Black Lives Matter set to the tune of Dixie.

The seamless integration of the aims of Kirill and Bartholomew comes to mind.

Parolin took his thirty pieces of silver off the Chinese Communist Party.

Well, glowing praise for Francis is what should be expected at masses for him, and I do not think other cardinals should complain, but instead, simply turn to each other during such Markian hagiographical antics and make as if sticking finger down throat, same as we do here for Mister Hagiography himself.

That is my suspicion, as well, and not just to Parolin, but to that clique whose aims largely mirror those of the Party, and who have proved so effective at neutering the Church, and past personal enrichment of friends/family, also a war chest to further their aims, such as in conclaves. A famous unsubstantiated quote regarding enjoying a papacy since it was given to them comes to mind with this crew now working for their money at the conclave.

Bob,

That was a Medici pope who said that, Leo X, who bungled Martin Luther's revolt

A great quote, fit Leo like a glove, however, it came from a Venetian ambassador talking of a Florentine pope, the two city/states not exactly on good terms, and the ambassador was not in Rome when this supposedly was said, so a second or third-hand quote at the best, if not an outright fabrication. But still a great "quote".

Bob,

You mean there was even fake news back then? Lol
