IF ONLY, IF ONLY, IF ONLY, THIS IS HOW THE POST-VATICAN II MASS HAD BEEN DESIGNED AND CELEBRATED ALL THESE 55 YEARS OR SO, IF ONLY

Bishop Morlino's Requiem in the Ordinary Form can be view HERE. Ad orientem, chanting of the propers, English and some Latin, kneeling for Holy Communion, dignified. This is a no-brainer yet there are so many no brains who simply don't get it!

Start watching at about 1:04 for some vivid pictures of OF ad orientem celebration.

Question - If the OF like this were mandated, would it increase or decrease the numbers in the pews?

Isn't desire for a more reverent and dignified Mass a symptom of neo-puritanism?

Only if those present have no need to say, “Lord, I am not worthy to receive you......”

Henry,

The Church in the USA would be in a much better position today if the OF had been like this from the beginning.

The church building is modern blah with catalogue furnishings, but an OF Mass that brings beauty to the ugly surroundings.

Henry, it would do both. First a decrease, then explosive growth.

I was deeply disappointed and surprised that the Sanctus and Agnus Dei were not chanted in Latin. Even in my simple, lake parish in the summer, the congregation there sings them magnificently. Overall, the Funeral Mass for Bishop Morlino was definitely a HUGE improvement over the saccharine funeral liturgies we typically are forced to endure.

This Mass also shows that even a bland church can take on great dignity when the altar is dressed in the traditional manner. There was no doubt you were looking at a Catholic sanctuary.

Fr McD:
I started watching it, but as the Mass started I lost interest. Beginning the Mass with prayers facing the people using a vulgar tongue directed at me....there is simply no comparison with the Old Rite that is 101% about God having mercy on the soul of the deceased.

I have not been to an OF Mass for a very long time. I do not think I could ever stay through an entire one again, as the OF seems like an insult to God when compared to the Byzantine or Old Latin rites.
