SINCE WHEN IS THE CHURCH, CLERGY AND LAITY, FORBIDDEN TO LOVE SINNERS?

Pope Francis Appoints LGBT-Positive Priest as Auxiliary Bishop in San Diego

I wonder just how small our parishes would be if sinners did not find sinner-positive clergy and laity in our Catholic parishes. Sinners not welcome--go to hell--and when you change your ways, come back to our country club parish where your sins won't disturb us or make us think we can do what your sins are.

Isn't this a bit absurd?

Substitute "murder-positive clergy" or "lying-positive clergy" and query again who's being absurd.

Marc, don't be absurd! Even SSPX priests visit prison, hear confession of murderers and accompany them to the gallows after offering the Last Rites. Are you suggesting that priests not be murderer positive in this regard?????????????????????

Father, priests are to be lions in the pulpit and lambs in the confessional. No cleric should be sin-positive in public. Whereas, clerics should be compassionate to the sinner in the confessional.

Sinners are welcome in the sense that they can come and repent along with the other sinners. That's not what earns these clergy an LGBT-positive reputation, though. They have that reputation because they don't preach repentance for certain sins. That they don't preach repentance for only a select sort of sexual sin makes the situation absurd as demonstrated by substituting other sins in the argument.

What does lgbt positive mean? If it means: "God loves sinners and will forgive you and wash away your filth", then Praised be Jesus Christ! I suspect that's not the case in this situation and more likely it means: "Gay is OK! God made you gay."

Christ calls us all to take up our crosses and follow Him. We ALL are sinners, and true love involves helping each other to avoid sin. Sin-positive is an oxymoron. The Church welcomes all of us sinners and is supposed to help us to avoid sins that kill our souls like a good mother. If anyone tells an LGBTQ person that their sins are okay, THAT is hateful because it means that the person thinks it is okay for the LGBTQ person to spend eternity in hell.

We all have our crosses to bear. We all have sins we must work hard to avoid. We all need confession. The LGBTQ community thinks that sins are defined by man and not by God. They think that by changing minds that their sins will no longer be sins. We need to love them enough to tell them "no", that this is not the case and that they are putting their eternal souls in danger.

The Church has always welcomed all sinners, it would be completely empty otherwise. We need to stop pandering to specific sins as if they were a 'special case': they are NOT. The LGBTQ community needs to take responsibility for themselves and do their best to avoid their sins and take up their crosses and follow Jesus, just like the rest of us.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have Mercy on us all. Amen

I agree with your point Father. Yes the Church must love all people. But giving the impression that remaining in a sinful situation without conversion is evil.

Well, bishops have been molester-positive, so.... There really should be a list of all the various sexual fetishes, with corresponding indications of which clerics are positive and which are negative. Pope Francis recently referred to dung-eaters, so I'd like to know which clerics are positive towards dung eaters.

I am beginning to think that most Catholic pastoral practice is carried out tongue-in-cheek with regard to doctrine. I am starting to think it is a coin toss as to where you attend church...Catholic, Methodist, Lutheran, Episcopalian...music is pretty much the same, same people first theology, same stupid humanistic/social service homilies, same looking askance at doctrine as "rigid," all on the same road to Hell. You all may be better off at a Baptist or Pentecostal church...at least they still believe in God.

"You all" may be better off? YOU ALL...? Please, take your self-righteousness and crawl back under the rock whence you came...

Father,

I was born in San Diego. I grew up in that diocese. And I've spent much of my adult life watching the rot set in. The settlements that Bishop Brom had to pay were the tip of the iceberg. This is not about welcoming sinners. The sinners Jesus embraced and welcomed were welcomed because He wanted to transform their lives and their eternal destiny.

On the positive side, Father (or Auxiliary bishop designate) Dolan is very much a people person. However, when New Ways Ministries starts fawning all over this appointment, we should all pause and take a closer look.

Anonymous,

Down here, "you" is singular, while "you all/ya'll" is plural. Also, we say grace and we say "ma'am".
