With these guards on duty protecting the Church, the LCWR and the Franciscans of Mary Immaculate have no chance of taking over the Church! All kidding aside, this is really cool and the Swiss Guards at the Vatican are actually very nice and friendly. This took place at the Vatican this morning, May 6 and looks like something out of a movie depicting a Renaissance Rite of Passage. Oh wait, it is a Renaissance Rite of Passage. Thank goodness Vatican II didn't call for an update of any kind to the ceremony or the rugged, austere, no-nonsense uniforms of the Swiss Guard:

How can you mention the LCWR and the FFI in the same breath?
Renaissance.
I wonder how long it will take Francis to abolish the Swiss Guards? You know it's coming.
John Nolan,
I'm confident he exhaled thoroughly and took a deep breath in between!
Abolish the Swiss Guard? It appears I am not the only one who claims to be clairvoyant although my crystal ball and reading of the stars hasn't indicated that to me.
Perhaps the Holy Father could replace the Swiss Guard with the now unemployed, all-female Amazonian Guard that once protected Muammar Gaddafi, the deceased "Fraternal Ruler and Director of the 1st of September Grand Revolution of the Great Arabian Socialist People's Libyan Jamahiriya".
Do a Google search about the arms with which the Swiss Guards are equipped. They are Papal Secret Service.
