Yeah, that Bartimaeus...Heve you folks ever read the Gospel of Mark? Between the lines, he is saying that Triumphant Grace (Karl Barth) covers all sin and that, because Grace is free and given to all, all will be saved. The implications of the Pope's words and actions throughout his Papacy indicate that he is a universalist/indifferentist. He is a better Calvinist than Calvin. I do not think the Pope is much of a theologian, but it does not matter because he does not care. To him, theology is ideology and doctrine is a road block to horizontal, egalitarian pastoral care, which ignores doctrine or relegates it to the realm of academia...unrelated to Christian interaction. There are many in the Church who share His view...deep down, they do not believe in a literal resurrection from the dead or any after life; this is it. Our only hope is to build Heaven here on earth through "mercy," nonjudgmental acceptance of anything, and love, love, love. So, Niebuhr really was describing the modern Catholic Church..."...leading men without sin, into a Kingdom without judgement, through a Christ without a Cross." So, where are you guys going to Church today...it really doesn't matter. I hear the Baptists have the best food, Lutherans the best beer, Presbyterians the most money, Methodists the shortest sermons, and Episcopalians the best parties. If you really want a stomp down good time, drive up to Appalachia and attend a Holiness church and catch a snake or two. PS don't drink their punch. After all, who are we to judge.
