Ordinarily, the sacristan would want to remove candles such as these when the church was not being used and lay them flat else they warp where the climate is warmer. The ...Does anyone know how the candles are handled? The assumption is they are soft and come on a roll with wire in wick, and are suspended. That church is noted for the tons of candles burned in honor of Our Lady on Marian feasts, and those tallest ones left burning perpetually in her honor in those times, at least. If soft wax, they would need be burned rather quickly as they would sag/flow down a wire core wick.<br /><br />But, could be wrong as to every bit of it. Any factual stuff from the peanut gallery?
