In so many words, Archbishop Sample is telling the Faithful to sing the Mass rather than to sing at Mass. When I was a cantor for 40 years, I would generally use the Gregorian psalm tones for the Responsorial Prayer and the simple settings of the Chant for the Kyrie, Sanctus and Agnus Dei (in the vernacular) with NO instrumental accompaniment and by God, that is what the congregation sang the best!!
