Specifically, his comparison of the ongoing attacks against the Church to anti-Semitism.

I happen to think Fr. Cantalamessa is spot on. Especially his point about the transition from personal responsibility to collective responsibility. One of the noticeable features of the ongoing polemic is that the whole idea of "punish the guilty, absolve the innocent" is rapidly disappearing from the discussion. Rather, the emphasis in many media reports now centers on implicating as many in the hierarchy as possible, especially the Holy Father, irrespective of evidence. It's no longer "Fr. X" or "Bishop Y" who is at fault. It's the "Catholic Church" as a whole. Its all the fault of "compulsory celibacy" or "Vatican secrecy" or some other general issue.

It's clear now that large sections of the mob do not care about the truth. Clear explanations, logic and evidence won't persuade them. All that's left on our part is silence and prayer just as Jesus was silent in front of Pilate and the assembled mob. Words were of no use and would not have been heeded anyway. Protestations of innocence would simply have inflamed the mob even more.

Time for all of us to walk the walk in the face of insults and abuse. This is the time to put on the attitude of Christ before Pilate.kiwiinamericahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03584836925358624544noreply@blogger.com
