The minority who still attend their parish church week in, week out, generally like what they find. Father cracks jokes from the altar and ignores the rubrics - he is admired for his 'pastoral' informality. They sing 'I the Lord of sea and sky' because it has a catchy and familiar tune and don't care much about the words.

Two weeks ago I was told of a quite elderly lady who recently attended Mass at the FSSP church in Warrington and her only complaint was being unable to see the celebrants face: 'The priest is acting "in persona Christi" and when he says the words of Consecration I need to gaze on the face of Christ.'

It would take no small measure of transfiguration to turn Father O'Bubblegum's ugly mug into the Divine Countenance.

John Nolanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09027156691859606002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7846189835239594160.post-38008160455250893502016-10-17T11:46:20.268-04:002016-10-17T11:46:20.268-04:00I believe "liberalism or Progessive-ism"...I believe "liberalism or Progessive-ism" is a spent force in Catholicism. They built nothing, so they leave nothing. The destruction they wrought is slowly, but steadily being repaired by faithful Catholics and the younger clergy.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7846189835239594160.post-79381480399364644802016-10-17T08:50:46.847-04:002016-10-17T08:50:46.847-04:00Well, Mrs. Murphy can still visit, even without ad...Well, Mrs. Murphy can still visit, even without administering a sacrament, but the "Eucharistic elements" inside a chalice or ciborium are not visible to the congregation in either orientation. At any rate, I'm glad that a couple of our Modernist brethren are finally prepared to allow for the possibility that the sentiments of some of us common Catholics are of some small value, however pitiable. I have no problem with them gathering in their old folks homes as they preserve their cherished memories of distortion and destruction. Live and let live.
