BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS, THE KINGOM OF GOD IS THEIRS!

As Pope Leo XIV reminded the Church, not everyone gets everything right as it concerns the Church’s seamless pro-life teachings.

But today, Israel has a king, a king of peace, King Trump! God bless his peacemaking efforts and may a just peace between Ukraine and Russia be next! Even King Trump’s greatest detractors are sending accolades to His Majesty today! Long live the king!

To be fair, the peace plan was basically Biden’s roadmap but it took Trump to bully it through so maybe any future Nobel prize should be awarded jointly which would really overjoy Trump!

Hey leftwing loonies post here, this is for you!

"Still hard to believe that last year, Biden was jettisoned by his party because he was too infirm to handle basic retail politics, only to be replaced by a candidate who couldn’t manage them herself.

As I wrote in November, the media were furious in October of 2024 that Trump was doing Retail Politics 101, because it simultaneously undermined all of their efforts to portray him as Orange Hitler, and because it demonstrated that Kamala couldn’t or wouldn’t do these sorts of basic campaign stunts. Biden never thought he’d get called on his plagiarism by the media in the 1980s, and curiously, in the 21st century, Kamala never thought anyone would call her on inventing a job at McDonald’s to grab some populist street cred, as the Washington Free Beacon did in August of 2024. Even so, it’s a safe bet that numerous local Mickey D owners, particularly in California, would have been thrilled to have her spend an hour or two posing at making fries. That she couldn’t be bothered to do so speaks volumes about her overall failure as a presidential candidate."

Correction of typo—new laptop, still getting used to it:

 Tongue in cheek, not tongue in check (though that might also somehow be appropriate I suppose)

What we in the uk and rest of the world can’t understand is why you Americans insist on electing octogenarians?

TJM did not cite the source for the quoted passage in his post at 4:40 p.m. It seems to be from a Blog called Instapundit. Here is an evaluation of Instapundit from Media Bias/Fact Check:

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/instapundit-bias/

Here is a summary:

“Overall, we rate Instapundit as right-biased and questionable based on the promotion of propaganda, conspiracy theories, the use of poor sources, a failed fact check, and a lack of transparency with ownership.”

Perhaps some would say it is a blog that appeals to “rightwing loonies.” -:)

“Kamala never thought anyone would call her on inventing a job at McDonald’s to grab some populist street cred, as the Washington Free Beacon did in August of 2024.”

The above statement is included in the passage from Instapundit quoted by TJM. We all remember the kerfuffle about Harris’s claim during the campaign that she once worked a college student summer job at McDonald’s. Trump claimed it was untrue. Snopes found the claim unproven, while the NYT cited some evidence that it was true (the recollection of one of Harris’s friends who had been told about the job by Harris’s late mother).

Trump is a pathological liar, so his claim that Harris’s claim is untrue meant and means nothing.

So, why couldn’t Harris provide stronger evidence of her summer job as a student? Let’s think about our own histories. Speaking for myself, as I was growing up in England, for over two years in my early teens I worked as a milk boy (assisting the milkman) at the weekends and during school vacations, in a brickworks for two weeks during the school Easter break when I was fourteen, in a retail clothing store when I was an older high school student or college student (I don’t even remember exactly which), and in a retail furniture and carpet store and as a traffic census taker when I was a college student. Yet I couldn’t prove any of it now with documentation and probably very little of it through the recollection of others. My parents are both deceased, I have no siblings, and I doubt that my (now also deceased) uncle and aunt or my still living cousins even knew about these jobs or, if they did, remembered them. I have two still living close friends who might remember some of my story (and I emphasize might and some). But everything I said is 100% true. I am now in my early 70s but the inability to prove my story would have been the same twelve years ago at Harris’s age. Perhaps your own experiences are similar. And yet the MAGA crowd still claims Harris made it all up. Draw your own conclusions.

Big Benny,

The cause of truth (not to mention the Rule of Law, a subject for another comment) is suffering very badly over here. Lies, falsehoods, and deception abound. Two striking examples perpetrated by the MAGA crowd are the following:

 The Big Lie that Trump won the 2020 election (he didn’t)
 The new Big Lie that the Democrats are responsible for the federal government shutdown because they want to extend the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) to “illegal aliens” (they don’t)

Despite the egregiousness of these lies, the MAGA crowd, trapped in their MAGA media bubble, seems to lap them up. Of course, Democrats sometimes lie also, and progressives, trapped in their own media bubble, lap those up too. But nothing compares with the frequency, extent, and size of the lies told by Trump and MAGA.

I care little for MAGA or the Democrats, and I care little about so-called “competing narratives.” I DO care a great deal about facts and truth. It shocks, but does not surprise, me that so many Catholics who support their preferred political party are not deeply disturbed by such lies, falsehoods, and deception. As I have pointed out before, many Catholic thinkers consider that lying is an intrinsic evil and we all know who the Father of Lies is, don’t we?

Well as MAGA proponents claim they are entitled to their own “facts”, there’s little hope as far as we can see from this side of the pond. Our major concern is their exporting of their lies and tactics, as well as direct meddling in our national affairs and politics.

your country has become a sick joke. You need to crawl back under your rock and stay there

TJM:

I think you see very little. Charitably, perhaps you misunderstood what I meant—I concede my comment is ambiguous.

What I meant by credit where credit is due is credit is due to Trump, at least for negotiating the hostage release and a cease fire (although only time will tell if and how long it will hold and whether the rest of the plan will succeed).

And what I was referring to with my tongue in cheek comment was not my first point but Father McDonald’s post about the King.

As for TDS, is MAGA unaware of the irony that one can make a reasonable case that it is Trump himself why suffers from TDS (i.e., he is deranged), as well as the MAGA crowd/cult for following him blindly?

And for the umpteenth plus one times, the “evil abortion supporting and transgender guys” are not MY guys, as I have made abundantly plain in many posts, including on this thread. And yet you persist in lying about me, again following the Trump playbook “rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat.” No matter how many times you, Trump, or anyone repeats a lie, it can never become the truth although you may eventually convince others just by wearing them down. Some of us are made of stronger stuff, however, and will NEVER be swayed by such lying! So shut it please.

Mark J.

Mark said...

Why? So that you and your MAGA comrades can continue lying?

And the United States is my country now too. And I agree it has become a sick joke. However, some of us are trying to restore it to health, beginning with the foundational respect for facts, truth, and the rule of law.

TJM:

What do you have to say about the vile text messages among the New York Young Republicans, published yesterday by Politico, which to me provide a window into the sick mindset created and encouraged by Trump and his henchmen like Stephen Miller? See:

https://www.politico.com/news/2025/10/14/private-chat-among-young-gop-club-members-00592146?

Of course, I fully expect you to evade and distract, just like J.D. Vance did when he said that a particular vile comment made by a Democrat was “1,000 times worse than what a bunch of young people, a bunch of kids say in a group chat, however offensive it might be” and that “he grew up in a different era where ‘most of what I, the stupid things that I did as a teenager and as a young adult, they’re not on the internet.’”

https://apnews.com/article/vance-trump-republicans-racist-group-chat-young-98edef4d2fdbb8def5dad24a3ab4e0c9

This is, of course, completely disingenuous, given that the Young Republicans include members aged 18-40 and Vance himself is only 41 and therefore, one assumes, very recently a Young Republican himself. Also, look at the photos in the article. How old do we think the culprits are?

One must wonder how many similar “group chats” and other in-person “chats” are occurring. It is beyond time that we returned our political discourse to some level of decency. And yes, the Democrats must clean up their discourse also when it falls below the standards of decency. Surely all Catholics should expect adherence to such proper standards of decency in thought and in conversation.
