POPE FRANCIS' PEDESTRIAN WAY OF SAYING THINGS CAUSES CONTROVERSY AND CONFUSION, BUT WHAT ELSE IS NEW?

This is a copied tweet, but tweets don't copy well. I am more concerned about ad libbing the dismissal as I hear miserable ad libs at the dismissal from permanent deacons. I thought we had nipped that in the bud! Off well.

Given some confusion over Pope’s call for “bootleggers” at Vatican’s first Simbang Gabi Mass, 2 things are clear: 1. Some have learned nothing from the last 7 years; 2. The Pinoy virtues (joy, embrace, witness) often need to be “smuggled” thru the Establishment’s “customs house.”

At close of first-ever Papal #SimbangGabi Mass in St Peter’s, Pope gives an unscripted dismissal, calling Filipino diaspora to be “‘contrabandisti’ of the faith” – in English, the term means “smugglers” or “bootleggers.”

Filipino Catholics are quite orthodox and the backbone of parish life, in my experience. No need for them to hide anything through, unless the powers that be frown on orthodoxy.

Impossible... Pope Francis has never confused anyone about anything in the last 7 years. He is the clearest Pope in history past, present and future - for ever and ever.

Not at all sure what is even meant, but this comment seems more appropriately made to the Church in China. But, of course, that might be offensive.
