SAINT SABASTIAN IS A VERY POPULAR SAINT IN ITALY, BUT THIS IMAGE MAY DAMAGE HIS REPUTATION

This is an image used by John Allen's Sunday morning Crux commentary which he confirms the polarization, ambivalence and befuddlement with a tinge of ultramontanism concerning Pope Francis.

You can read the Allen commentary here.

I, for one, to point out the obvious, find this image a bit disconcerting. The see through cassock His Holiness wears does not seem to reveal what this image reveals which is way to much! Will anyone be able to unsee it?  That is the Sunday morning question of the day. I am seeking St. Sebastian's intercession for a cleansing of my memory concerning this photo! To see or unsee? That is the question!
This is hardly the first time an Italian publication has offered a run-down of the pontiff’s supposed enemies, both inside the Vatican and in the hierarchy, but the rhetoric this time was especially breathless.

I hope he is not more like Yukio Mishima. I do agree that many have developed a knee jerk negative reaction to Pope Francis that is not good. The fact that some people leap on his statements to actually support changes to Church teaching, etc. does not help that situation. The fact that he has made no efforts to correct those perceptions is most disturbing and frustrating to those of us who support the Papacy. Perhaps he is seeking a form of martyrdom.
