I'M NOT REALLY OFFENDED BY THIS IMAGE OF THE HOLY FATHER OR THE VALUES IT COMMUNICATES TO THE WORLD, SO WHY REMOVE IT IN MY LOVELY ROMA?

'SuperPope' gone in a flash

VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis’ status as a superhero has bit the dust.

Artist Mauro Pallotta said he wants to try to paint Rome's Mayor Ignazio Marino next, as an anti-hero.

Rome police early Thursday scrubbed the wall near the Vatican where “SuperPope” had been displayed, showing Francis as Superman in flight and clutching his black satchel of values to spread to the world.

Artist Mauro Pallotta had put the image up Monday in homage to Francis.

Pallotta’s agent, Margaret Porpiglia, said Thursday the artist is now hoping to avoid a city fine.
The white caped crusader pope, which was actually painted on paper and affixed to the wall with water-based glue, had drawn immense popular interest around the Borgo neighborhood of tiny cobblestoned streets near St. Peter’s Square.

Not showing due reverence to holy persons or sacred places, things and actions is blasphemy. Why must everything holy and revered in Catholicism be reduced to the absolute lowest level. The picture of Pope Francis hugging the deformed person has much more value and is tasteful and respectful. Why does everything visual about Traditional Catholicism have to be bastardized like this. On the face of it,it seems like a cute, harmless little cartoon but the impact is diminishing the respect due to the Office of Peter. An office which Francis is only a temporary occupant. Christ didn't die on that cross to have His vicar portrayed in such a manner. Let them try and portray Mohameed like this and see what happens. That artist would already be beheaded. The one and only thing I admire Muslims for is their devotion to their religion, not the violence, but their very REAL belief.

Very well said, Anonymous. I actually wouldn't have necessarily thought of it like that, but now that you've said that, I agree.

Yes, in the way you describe it, it is best to be removed! The majesty of the papacy need not be compromised in the name of dumbing everything down to the lowest common denominator or silly popular images that distort the dignity of the papacy.

But since George Reeves as Superman in the 1950's and one of my most favorite or all favorite shows as a child of 4 and 5 years old and completely disillusioned when it was reported to us small children he had committed suicide (I just couldn't understand how the man of steel could do such a thing and die, perhaps he was testing his steelness?) I have loved Superman and he's my most favoritist super hero, bar none, except for the silliness of "Lois and Clark" and the subsequent portrayals of him in movies following Christopher Reeves portrayals which I liked, but the most recent concoction I hated. The last one just wasn't believable and Clark Kent as a virgin as well as superman is necessary and the fact that no one, save his foster parents, know his secret identity and it is completely hidden by glasses and a bungling alter ego in Clark Kent, all this needs recovery!

It is very clear that you do not like to be challenged. Those poor guys who wanted to enter the seminary must have had some time jumping through your hoops. Wow
